Youth Apprenticeship

The Youth Apprenticeship at A to Z Machine is a great opportunity for someone who has a strong interest in establishing a career in machining. If you are good at solving problems, are mechanically inclined, have good math skills and understand what a good work ethic is, we may have the opportunity you are looking for.  The Youth Apprentice works full-time during the summer months and part-time during the school year.  This is not a position for someone who is simply looking for a summer job or a part-time job to fill their time or their gas tank. It is an opportunity for someone to get a solid start on a career in machining, learning from some of the best Machinists in the Valley.

Job Responsibilities:

The Youth Apprentice will work in several areas of the shop and will be assigned different tasks including but not limited to:

  • Assist in Tool Room.
  • Assist in Gaging.
  • Machine parts.
  • Perform basic inspection (Micrometer, Caliper, thread gauges, etc.).

Education:

  • Must be 16 years of age or older and finishing his/her sophomore or junior year of high school. This program is not open to anyone who is beyond high school.

Skills:

  • Math skills (decimals, fractions, measurement, logic) – required
  • Good Work Ethic – required
    Positive Attitude and Great Team Player - required
  • Problem Solving - required
  • Proficient with hand tools – required
  • Mechanically inclined – required
  • Ability to get up early every day and be to work on time - every day - required
  • Ability to take direction and learn by doing - required
